THE WOMAN BEHIND THE NAME

Pearl Laska

(1909 - 2012)

Long before commercial air travel became commonplace, Pearl Laska was chasing horizons.

She learned to fly in 1933, served her country during World War II in the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) and as a Pentagon cryptologist, became a bush pilot and flight instructor in Alaska, and was the first woman to solo a single-engine airplane up the Alaska Highway.

Throughout her remarkable life she earned numerous aviation honors, held her pilot certificate for more than 75 years, and explored over 90 countries, discovering the people, cultures, and foods that inspired her lifelong love of adventure.

Pearl believed that flying represented more than transportation—it represented freedom, curiosity, courage, and possibility.

The Flying Pearl was created by her granddaughter, Jennava Laska, a licensed general contractor and creative director as a tribute to those values.

Today this gathering place celebrates great food, thoughtful design, community, and the spirit of exploration that Pearl carried throughout her 103 years.

Whether you arrived by car, bicycle, or airplane... Welcome. You're cleared to land.

Dedicated to Pearl's memory — and to grandmothers everywhere, whose lives shape families and communities in ways both quiet and extraordinary.
